Technical Writer
Duration: 6+ month contract
Location: Madison, WI 53711
 
Overview: The CRS Group is currently looking for a Technical Writer for one of our clients in the Madison area. The CRS Group is a nationwide Staffing Firm who works primarily with Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 corporations.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for writing and editing strategic and customer-facing documents. Activities include creating new documents and improving existing material
  • Understanding complex information presented in writing 
  • Translating technical information into audience appropriate documentation 
  • Synthesizes information and offerings received from various stakeholders in order to present a single, cohesive solution to the customer 
  • Improving document clarity and impact by performing reviews, editing, standardization, or other changes to material prepared by other writers 
  • Responsible for ensuring that all documentation is clear, concise, polished and organized and that it is stored where it can be located and easily consumed. 
  • Review published and internal materials to provide editing or proofreading services as requested 
  • Review, edit, and create knowledge base articles for use by Service Delivery teams 
  • Review, edit, and create internal and customer facing SOPs and process documentation 
  • Maintain corporate best practices pertaining to style formats and documentation retention 
  • Deliver new or revised material in a time-sensitive manner 
  • Responsible for ensuring that all customer-facing documentation is clear, concise and polished 
  • Undertake special projects as requested by management 
  • Communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, or e-mail 
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work 
  • Use critical thinking skills to identify complex problems in written material in order to develop alternatives, evaluate options and implement solutions 
  • Engage in consultations on various aspects of documentation 
  • Create and maintain best practices documents including editorial style guide, writing and editing process description, and writing and editing project specifications list 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
  • Have at least five years of varied technical writing experience, preferably in an IT service provider context 
  • Experience working with networks, systems, and architecture documentation and have understanding of IT projects 
  • Possess expert knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar 
  • Skilled with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other relevant software applications 
  • Experience with SharePoint document repositories or similar tool set 
  • Maintain excellent organizational skills (help streamline sales workflow 
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task effectively 
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team 
  • Possess excellent verbal communication skills 
  • Capable of interacting with all levels of an organization 
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team 
  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline or English preferred 
  • Professional certifications such as APMP (Association of Proposal Management Professionals) or PMI (Project Management Institute) and ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) 
  • 7-10 years of technical writing or comparable experience 
  • Knowledge management experience
